Youth Employment
Do you remember your first job?
You probably had some help finding
it. Maybe your father or mother
knew someone who owned a candy store
and was looking for some extra help
during the summer. Or maybe it was
an aunt or uncle who knew someone
looking for a young kid to mow their
lawn on a regular basis.
SAY provides that type of connection
for kids looking for their first
job. And we provide a lot more,
too.
First, we help them log onto Pathfinder,
a search engine designed for this
purpose. Then we help teens with
some basic skills. Our workshop
topics include: how to interview
for a job; what to wear (and not
wear) to an interview; what attitude
to take to (and leave behind) the
workplace; what to do if you see
a coworker steal on the job; and
how to prepare a résumé.
By the time teens leave our office
they have a résumé, some job listings,
and the kind of help we probably
wished we’d had when we were
younger.
